Service Description

Dive into a day of cultural immersion with Peter Durocher (Sá:nastiqá), a Mohawk elder and storyteller. We will spend the day on the shores of Lake Manitoba. Join us as we explore the significance of the Seven Teachings, unravel first nations myths, and engage in meaningful conversations about the essence of elderhood. Lunch of corn chowder and bannock provided. Please advise if you have any food allergies. We will send a full description of location upon registration. Either meet in St. Laurent at 10:30 or indicate if you would like to carpool from Winnipeg. About Peter: Peter is a Mohawk (Kanien'kehá:ka) as well as an elder and story teller within his community. He was born on a reserve in Northern Ontario to a Blood Mohawk father and mixed blood mother who was half Mohawk and half irish. Peter lost his mother by age 4 and was raised by the community. Peter speaks Mohawk, Cree and Inuit. He teaches the tsiá:ta Sherihónnien (Seven Teachings) as well as stories of the past handed down from Grandmothers and Grandfathers.
